A new species to Belgium in 2023 in LX.
Native
Wingspan 11–15 mm. Due to the similarity with Coleophora alcyonipennella and imagines are not separable with certainty using external features so identification should be by dissection.
Antennae black with white tips, thickened at the base by shiny black scales. Head and middle body shiny purplish brown. Labial palps gray. Front wings shiny brass at the tip shiny copper. Hind wings are grey.
The caterpillars apparently live on flowers and fruit heads from within a cryptic case.
The adults fly at night and come to light.
The adults are on the wing from early May towards August.
The larva feeds presumably on Trifolium pratense.
It inhabits open places and limestone grasslands.
