Wingspan 13–18 mm. The taxon was previously mixed with Pammene fasciana, but differs ecologically and morphologically and now P. herrichiana has been recognized as a separate species.
Species can best be identified on the basis of the genitals.
Eggs are deposited mainly on leaves
The larva feeds on the seeds that later dry and fall off in autumn. Pupating in a cocoon in crevices at the lower part of tree trunks, under bark, or on the ground.
The adults come infrequently to light, because they usually fly high in the canopy.
The adults usually fly from mid-April to June.
The larva feeds on Fagus sylvatica.
It inhabits forests.
