Earlier doubtfully recorded from Belgium (misidentifications of Elachista subocellea), but certainly belonging to the Belgian fauna as stated in Traugott-Olsen & Schmidt-Nielse (1977: 105). Recently (2018) recorded from NA with gen. det.
Hitherto a very rare and local species in Belgium.
Native
Light greyish green with side stripes, head brown.
Long, narrow mine in the grass blade starting from the tip downwards.
The caterpillars mine from August–September till late spring and again in June–July.
Two generations per year: adults from May to June and in July.
Preferably on Festuca ovina, but also recorded from Poa pratensis and Koeleria cristata.
Preferring dry grasslands.
