Wingspan 14–20 mm. General colour is a fulvous brown shade with a paler dorsum that widens to include the ocellus that has black dashes. The dorsal patch is not distinct and there are costal strigulae terminally.

Genitalia


Bionomics

The larva feeds in the flower heads and hibernates as a full-grown larva and pupates in a cocoon in the ground.
The adults are active at dusk and later come to light.

Flight periods

The adults fly from late May till late July, sometimes till August. Most observations during July.
