A rare species throughout Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 10-11 mm. An Elachistid with a variable extent of reddish-ochreous suffusion on a plain ochreous-white ground color. A further feature is that the thorax shows a central reddish-ochreous stripe. Males have greyish-brown antennae, while females have ringed ochreous and brown antennae.
The larvae feed on a range of grasses. The larva makes a whitish blotch mine near the tip of the blades of the food plant.
Pupation on a leaf under a slight cocoon.
They are active from the evening and come to light.
The adults fly from in April and May.
The larva lives on Holcus mollis, Arrhenatherum elatius or Festuca arundinacea.
This is a species of grasslands.
