A single specimen of this species was captured on 21.vi.1982 in NA by F. Coenen and identified by sight by J. Klimesch as Elachista triseriatella Stainton, 1854. (Coenen F. 2011b. Elachista triseriatella Stainton, 1854, espèce nouvelle pour la faune belge (Lepidoptera, Elachistidae). — Lambillionea 111(3): 274.)
After genitalization by S. Wullaert in 2022, it turned out to be Elachista elsaella Traugott-Olsen, 1854, a new species to Belgium.
So far known, this is the only observation of this species.
Native
Wingspan 7–9 mm. Head and middle body white. Labial lips white. Forewings white with a varying number of black dots. Hind wings white.
The male genitalia are characterized by the broad and bent phallus that has a hookshaped
apex.
The female genitalia has the colliculum shaped as a short, sclerotized band. The ductus bursae is membranous.
Adults are active during the daytime and at dusk, and attracted to light at night.
The adults are on the wing from late May towards August.
The larva feeds on Festuca ovina.
It inhabits grasslands.
