Caterpillar

Dirty white colored with transverse reddish stripes on the segments, head yellow to pale brown, protharacic shield concolorous with head, dark edged.


Bionomics

The larvae live in spins in the inflorescence, stems and seeds of the host plant. The adults come to light.


Flight periods

The adults fly in two generations a year onwards from late May towards September.

The caterpillars live exclusively in the fruits of tall umbelliferous plants. Polyphagous on species of the umbelliferous family (Apiaceae) like Thapsia, Foeniculum vulgare, Heracleum platytaenium, Ferula communis and Laserpitium.


Habitat

It inhabits open places, woodland edges, roadside verges, rough ground and uncultivated ground.
