Imago

Wingspan 13–18 mm. The combination of white ground colour, black and ferruginous markings makes this species easily identifiable. Note particularly the white head and black thorax.

Bionomics

The larva lives in the seeds and sometimes burrowing into the stem on the host plant. It overwinters in a cocoon in the soil and pupation takes place inside that cocoon.
They fly from late evening and later come to light.

Flight periods

The adults fly from late May till late August, occasionally later. Most observations during July.

The larva lives on Senecio jacobaea and also on Senecio paludosus.
