A very rare and local species in Belgium, not recorded for a long time.

Wingspan 11–16 mm. Differs from other Eucosma species by its smaller size and the diffuse and obscure forewing markings.
Light yellow-brown forewings with diffuse brown-black spots in the inner half of the wing. Paler area towards the back corner with silvery edges and 2-4 black lines inside. Long pale lines from the front edge towards the outer edge.
The larva is whitish to pale orange, the head is lighter or darker brown, the neck plate is light brown with a black dot on each side and two smaller ones behind, head and thoracic feet dark brown, pinacula hardly distinguishable, very small brown anal valve.
The larvae live in August/September in the flower baskets, moving from head to head without spinning them together. The larvae hibernate in a cocoon in the soil.
The adults come to light.
The adults are on the wing from late June towards August.
The larva lives on Solidago virgaurea.
It inhabits open woods, woodland edges, scrub, roadside verges, wasteland etc...
