Caterpillar

Pale white caterpillar with black spots and yellow orange head.


Bionomics

The larva folds a radical leaf, turning the upperside inwards to form a spacious pocket within which it feeds on the upper epidermis without perforating the leaf. When fully fed in late July, it constructs a white silken cocoon amongst leaf litter in which it overwinters.
The adults come to light.


Flight periods

The adults fly form late April towards early June.

Habitat

It inhabits open woods, dry grassy habitats, scrub and uncultivated ground, mainly on limestone soil.
