A very rare species in Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 17–23 mm. It has dark plumbeous grey forewings, intricately marked with, black, chocolate brown and reddish brown with ochre and white scales. There is a discrete black and brown mark at one quarter on the dorsum and a larger similarly coloured mark pre-tornal above the dorsum. There is no pale costal blotch.
Greenish white body with dark brown head, prothoracic plate yellowish brown, anal plate concolorous with body, pinacula pale.
The larva lives in a leaf rolled with silk. Pupation in a loose cocoon in the litter.
The moths can be beaten from the branches of their foodplant and later come sparsely to light.
The adults fly from mid-September till early November. Most observations in October.
The larva feed mainly on Populus tremula, less on other Populus species.
It occurs in mixed woodland.
