Wingspan 12–14 mm. A quite variable species, with a cream-white dorsal triangular patch, often obscured.

Bionomics

From autumn till spring the larva lives in a male catkin, causing it to deform somewhat. Later the larva moves to a developing bud. They pupate in a cocoon on the ground.
The adults come to light.

Flight periods

The adults fly in two generations a year from April till early October. The first generation is the most numerous with a peak in May.
