Wingspan 13–17 mm. Characterised cream-white overall appearance with two dorsal dark markings which are somewhat diffuse.

Bionomics

The larvae feed internally on the catkins throughout the winter period. The larvae hibernate and pupation takes place inside a catkin or amongst leaf litter on the ground.
The adults are active at dusk and come to light.

Flight periods

The adults fly usually from late April till well in July, with a peak during June. Some specimens have been seen till mid-September.
