Hibernates as larva and pupates in a cocoon near the ground. The adults are active during the day, especially on sunny days when they visit flowers of various herbaceous plants like Trifolium, Echium vulgare and Carduus.
The adults usually fly from mid-May towards late July, with a peak during June.
The larva lives on Rumex acetosa and R. acetosella.
It inhabits particular humid meadows, like fens or in the margin areas of bogs, but also drier nutrient-poor grasslands with the larval host plant.
