Imago

Wingspan 14–16 mm. A fairly distinctive species with a white ground colour, a generally white basal area of the forewing and a red-brown apical spot combined with blackish and metallic grey markings.

Caterpillar

Red body, segment limits greenish, head light brown with prothoracic plate darker, hind margin darkly stippled, pinacula pale.

Bionomics

The larvae feed on the berries, spinning them together where a single purple berry amongst the green ones is a good sign that a larva is present. They hibernate fully fed in a cocoon on the lower part of the tree where they later pupate.
The adults fly just before dusk and come later to light.
