A very rare but widespread species in Belgium.

Eggs are laid on the developing seedheads on the host plant.
Yellowish brown body with a dark brown head, prothoracic and anal plates somewhat lighter brown. When fully grown more tinged with pink.
The larvae live in the inflorescence, feeding on the spun fruits eating out their substance. The larva hibernates in a cocoon in the litter where it remains until the spring.
The adults fly in afternoon sunshine, when they rest on flowers of the foodplant, and again from dusk onwards. The adults come to light.
The adults have been seen from June, but usually fly from early July towards late August.
The larva feeds on Angelica sylvestris, Daucus carota, Heracleum sphondylium, Peucedanum palustre, Silaum silaus and Pastinaca sativa.
It occurs in downland, open places, flowery grasslands and pastures, woodland edges, roadside verges etc...
