Imago

Wingspan 14–15 mm. A dark winged species with prominent pale short costal strigulae. The ferruginous-orange general coloration and the large pale medio-dorsal blotch are characteristic.

Caterpillar

Larva with a brown head and body translucent greyish white, pinacula fuscous, prothoracic and anal plates brown.

Bionomics

The larva lives in the seeds on the host plant. It makes a neat round exit hole on leaving when fully fed.
The adults are active from late afternoon onwards and later come to light.

The adults have been observed from mid-June till early September, with a peak during July.
