A very rare and local species in Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 9–14 mm. For a conclusive determination, examination of the genitals is necessary.
Top of labial palps whitish differs from the otherwise similar Monochroa servella which are grey-brown.
The larva lives at first on the tip of the leaves and in young top shoots of the food plant and creates a small, very irregular mine. After hibernation the larva lives in the upper part of the stem and spins the terminal shoots together.
Pupation probably outside the mine.
The adults fly from about mid-July towards early August in one generation a year.
The larva feeds on Lysimachia vulgaris.
It inhabits damp places like marshes and meadows.
