A very rare species in Belgium, not seen for a long time.
Native
Wingspan 11–13 mm. The blackish grey suffusion at the middle of the outer margin of the median fascia and the grey suffusion in the distal half of the forewing are characteristic.
It lives as a caterpillar in the seed capsules on the food plant. The adults are active from dusk and later come to light.
The adults are on the wing from May towards August.
It feeds on Odontites, more rarely on Rhinanthus and occasionally on Euphrasia. There is a lot of uncertainty about which host plants are used, but all other information about plants from other families that can be found in the literature is verifiably or very likely wrong!
It inhabits open areas.
