Presclerite

Description:

A differentiated anterior section of an abdominal sclerite, separated from the rest of the sclerite by a ridge, constriction or both. A presclerite of a tergite is termed pretergite. Similarly, a presclerite of a sternite is termed presternite. Presclerites of the third abdominal segment form a highly specialized articulation with the petiole and are called the helcium.
