Description:

The second abdominal segment. This segment is usually reduced and always isolated from the alitrunk anteriorly. It is also usually isolated from the remaining abdominal segments posteriorly. It is the first and often the only segment of the ant waist. The petiole may be nodiform (when it takes the form of a node) or squamiform (when it takes the form of a scale).
