Abdominal segment

Description:

One of the seven visible segments constituting the abdomen in ants. Except the first one, called propodeum and represented by its tergite only, each abdominal segment is formed by a pair of sclerites, the tergite and the sternite which are the dorsal and the ventral sclerite, respectively. Each abdominal segment bears a spiracle, which may be visible or covered by the tergite of the preceding abdominal segment.
