New species to Belgium in 2024 at VB.
Exotic
An East Asian species from Japan and Taiwan. It was first seen in Europe in Italy in 2018.
It is very likely that the species came to Europe as eggs or young caterpillars and were distributed via the plant trade.
For your information, to the best of our knowledge, the first 10 Belgian observations (if any) are listed here:
1) 1 ♂ on 11.viii.2024 at Itterbeek (VB), leg. L. Kestemont et al., & gen. det. S. Wullaert.
2) 1 ex. on 01.v.2025 at Zemst (VB), leg. E. Lauwers et al.
The adults fly in different generations a year and can be seen from April to September.
The larvae feed on different species of Rhododendron.
Everywhere where Rhododendron stands is growing.
