Wingspan 14–18 mm.
The larva creates a movable tubular silken case attached to the side of a seed pod and feeds on the seeds within. The larvae hibernate fully fed and pupate the following year.
The adults come to light.
The adults are on the wing between June and early August.
The larva lives on Silene species.
It inhabits open places, roadside verges, and waste ground.
