Wingspan: 25–30 mm. The wing margin on the male's forewing runs roughly parallel to the wing edge and is approximately the same width over its entire length. The lemon-yellow female is almost unspotted and has a deep notch in the reddish-brown wing margin halfway down the forewing.

The adults fly from late June till September with a peak in August.
The main foodplant is creeping willow, Salix repens, also on Corylus, Betula and Populus tremula.
