A widespread and not so common species in Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 28–35 mm. Generally the largest of the four Dioryctria species occurring in Belgium, it is best distinguished by the shape of the subterminal line, which is more smoothly curved than the obvious dentate lines of the other species. In addition, the sub-terminal line approaches the dorsum almost at a right-angle.
The larvae bore under the bark of the trunk, an extensive extrusion of resin often is the result. Pupation in the larval habitation. The adults come to light.
The adults fly from July till the end of September.
It inhabits pine forests.
