A very rare and local species in Belgium, not seen for a very long time.
Native
Wingspan 10–15 mm. Head and middle body yellowish white. Forewings narrow, pure white or slightly darker gray or yellow, at the base with dark brown streaks. Central band dark brown with black spots, broadly interrupted at center by pale yellow and continues to the front edge as a small spot. Subterminal fascia wide, dark gray, with black and light spots. Red spots at the wingtip. Cilia with brown and black. Hindwings grayish.
Body brownish white, often with a reddish hue, head dark brown, prothoracic plate brown, margined black, median sulcus darkly punctuated.
Larvae in the flower heads of the food plants. Hibernation as a larva and pupates in a sparse cocoon on the ground.
The adults are active from dusk onwards and later come to light.
The adults fly in two generations from May to June and in August.
The larva lives on Carduus nutans, Carduus acanthoides, Cirsium vulgare, Centaurea jacea and Arctium tomentosum
It inhabits meadows and dry slopes.
