A very rare species in the southern part of Belgium, not seen for a very long time.
Can be confused with Cochylis roseana.

Wingspan 11–16 mm. There is some variation in the intensity of the pink colouration of the forewing, but it is quite a distinctive moth.

Caterpillar

The caterpillar is dirty green to reddish brown, the head and neck shield are brown.

Bionomics

The larvae live in the flower heads from August till late October. Hibernation and pupation in a cocoon among litter. The adults become active in the evening and later come to light.

Adults are on the wing from late June into August

Host plant (genera):
Knautia and Scabiosa

The larva lives mainly on Knautia arvensis, also on Scabiosa columbaria, reports in literature of Succisa pratensis are unlikely.
