Wingspan 15–24 mm. A species with a pale yellow ground colour and reduced ferruginous-brown markings.

Bionomics

The larva lives in the roots and it hibernates full-fed in a silken cocoon in the feeding places or in the soil. Pupation takes place in May in the cocoon.
The adults can easily be disturbed during the day but are active at dusk and later come to light.

The adults usually fly from mid-May till late September in one long annual generation.
