Imago

Wingspan 12–18 mm. There are five strong white strigulae on the costa and a white moon-shaped dorsal spot, ocellus with strong black dashes.

Caterpillar

Dirty whitish body with a brown head, prothoracic plate darker brown to blackish brown, anal plate brownish and pinacula hardly recognisable.

Bionomics

The larva lives in damaged areas or cancerous places on the trunks and strong branches that are richly covered with resin and it feeds on bast and bark.
The adults come to light.

Flight periods

The adults are on the wing from mid-May towards early September.


Observed on

Host plant (genera):
Pinus, Abies, Picea and Juniperus

The larva lives on Picea abies and Juniperus communis. Reports of Pinus and Abies in literature is doubtfull.
