Imago

Wingspan 10–12 mm. A small dark brownish grey Cydia. The outer two thirds has deep golden tips to the scales resulting is a peppered effect.
Costa with 5 white strigulae. The first subtends a leaden fascia to the dorsum. The second subtends a leaden fascia to the tornus, skirting the ocellus which is black marked. The fourth subtends a leaden fascia which has an interruption before skirting the outer edge of the ocellus and the leaden fascia from the fifth skirts around the apex.

Whitish body with light brown head and pale brown prothoracic plate.

Bionomics

The larva lives on immature cones on seeds, usually in median part of cone. During autumn, the larva makes a cocoon and hibernates. Before pupating, they bore a burrow that ends at the tip of a single cone scale.
They are active during morning, afternoon and dusk and can be seen around their food plants. They come sparsely to light


Flight periods

The adults have been observed from early May towards late July.

Habitat

It inhabits pine woods and heathland with pine stands. It prefers the cones in the top area or at the outermost ends of the slightly lower branches of exposed trees or south-facing on sunny slopes.
