A not so common species throughout Belgium, mainly observed in the northern part.
Native
Wingspan 8–10 mm. Smaller and browner than Strophedra weirana with a shorter and less attenuated forewing and comparatively well-defined fasciate markings. It may also show plumbeous fascia not present in Strophedra weirana .
A whitish larva with a pale brown head, the nape is darker brown, the anal valve is small, pale brownish.
The larva feeds between two leaves that are tightly spun one above the other. Hibernation as pupa in a frass-incrustated cocoon in the larval habitation before leaf-fall.
The adults are active on warm and sunny afternoons and later come to light.
The adults have been observed from early May towards early September.
The larva lives on Quercus robur and Quercus sp. Information in literature about Castanea sativa should be confirmed.
It occurs in parkland and oak woodland.
