A very rare and local species in Belgium along the coast in WV.
Native
The egg is laid on the underside of the leaf, close to the midrib, or on the leaf edge.
The caterpillar is yellow to brown-yellow.
The caterpillars can be found from the end of June to mid-July. And then again from the end of September to the beginning of October.
The mine starts as a narrow corridor that is almost completely filled with black frass. This initial corridor usually runs against the leaf edge. Then a blotch is formed that can take up half a leaf. Usually in the slightly smaller leaves. In the blotch, the black frass is rather irregularly spread.
Abandoned mines turn black and are easier to find.
