Bionomics

Hibernates as a pupa in a solid cocoon in the sand, sometimes for several years.
The adults come not often to light.

The adults fly in one generation a year from late April till early July.

The distinctive larva lives on Verbascum lychnitis and is by far the most important food plant. Also found, but less on Verbascum nigrum, Verbascum chaixii ssp. austriacum, Verbascum phlomoides, Verbascum sinuatum and on Verbascum thapsus.
