Imago

Wingspan 12–16 mm. Very variable in degree of suffusion and strigulation of ground colour. Forewing has a subfalcate apex in both sexes. The outer edge of the basal band and the striations that follow are especially oblique on the costa.

Bionomics

The larva lives between spun leaves. Pupation in the larval habitation or in a cocoon amongst detritus on the ground.
The adults are active towards dusk and later come to light.


Flight periods

The adults fly from late May till late September. Most observations during July.

Substrates:
Polyphagous

The polyphagous larva feeds almost exclusively on Rosacea trees and Ericaceae like Vaccinium myrtillus, Vaccinium uliginosum, Vaccinium vitis-idaea, Calluna vulgaris, Malus domestica, Malus sylvestris, Prunus padus, Prunus spinosa, Crataegus sp. and Sorbus aucuparia. Also mentioned in literature is Ilex aquifolium but this food plant is more likely to be used locally.
