Recorded for the first time in Belgium in 1981 in LG. A very local and rare species in Belgium, only known with certainty from one area in LG.
Native
The larvae are similar to Psyche casta but crossbands are more prominent. The larvae are dark, with body reddish yellow. The crossbands across the back are more emphatically present and are dark, often with yellowish bands. Larval development is one or two years.
Length 10–15 mm, width 2–4 mm; tubular, covered with grass stems. The case is slightly bigger than to the one of Psyche casta but P. crassiorella uses often thicker stems.
Pupation in the case during May and June.
One generation a year from late June to mid-July.
