Native
The eggs are laid on the flower heads of Sanguisorba officinalis. The caterpillar lives on the flower head for over two weeks. After that, the caterpillar leaves the host plant to be picked up on the ground by ants. These ants bring the caterpillars to their nest and the caterpillars live on ant larvae. The butterflies are sedentary and often occur near areas where the host plant grows in high densities.
The adults fly from late June to August.
