A very rare and local species in Belgium. Very closely related to Phalonidia manniana, there are no reliably external characteristics between the two species, therefore study of the genitals is necessary for identification.

Imago

Wingspan male 10–13 mm, female 10–14 mm. This species is very similar with Phalonidia manniana. Determination by genitalia examination required.

The shape of the median process of the transtilla is diagnostic and it is relatively long and slender in the male genitalia.

Dirty white body with five unsharp light red length lines, head, prothoracic and anal plates light brown.

Bionomics

The larva bores in the stem where it also the hibernates and pupates.
