A very rare and local species in Belgium.
Native
The caterpillars live gregariously in the flower heads and feed on the developing fruits, sometimes descending into the stem.
The adults become active in late afternoon and later come to light.
The adults have mainly been observed from late May towards late July.
The larva lives mainly on Carlina vulgaris, also on other species of Carlina.
It inhabits calcareous soils, sand dunes, waste ground, meadows, gravel pits, old quarries etc...
