Native
The caterpillar lives in the culms of the host plant and only leaves it to change culms. The species overwinters as a caterpillar. Pupation takes place in a cocoon in the ground. The adults come to light.
Adults are on the wing from May towards September with a peak in July.
The larvae live on various grasses.
