A rather rare species throughout Belgium.
This species is considered Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List category for Flanders 2023.
Native
It pupates in a cocoon in the earth.
Hibernates as an adult under loose bark or in another sheltered situation.
The adults come to light and sugar.
The adults fly in September and October, and after hibernation again from March till early May in one generation.
The larva lives on various deciduous trees and shrubs, later also on herbaceous plants.
