First observation of this species originally described from Brazil dates from 08.viii.2023 at Meer (AN), leg. F. Verhoeven. (species was determined molecularly by ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek // Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and food)
A native species to the United States. It can also be found in Mexico, Central, and South America.

A small (wingspan 17–22 mm), yellow to black moth with sexual dimorphism that varies by location.
It is thought to overwinter as larvae or pupae. The larvae feed by tunneling into the stem of the host plant. Adults live for about 10 days, and are most active at night.
It has several overlapping generations per year. In the USA, the pest has 3 to 4 generations and is active from June to November.
A polyphagous pest that often attacks several grain and legume crops.
