New to Belgium in 2022 in OV.
Native
Wingspan c. 11 mm. An attractive and colorful day-flying species with orange-brown, purplish, and white markings.
Buff to greenish colored.
The larva primarily mines in the lower leaves of the host plant, creating a corridor along the stem that extends towards the tip, which widens into a blotch mine, making the leaf appear transparent. The mine contains no frass. Often, two larvae are present in a mine.
The adults are active during the day. The species is not well attracted to light.
The larva mines the leaf and feeds mainly at night. When disturbed or resting, the larva retracts into the leaf base where it is safe and not visible. Pupation in a pupal chamber in a separate mine.
The species fly between April and August in usually two generations a year.
If the circumstances are favorable, a partial generation occurs in autumn, or there is one long, prolonged generation.
