A common species throughout Belgium, with a preference for sandy soils.
This species is considered Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List category for Flanders 2023.
Native
Hibernates as a larva and pupates among plant debris. The adults come to light and sugar.
The adults fly in one, sometimes two generations a year from beginning of June towards September, very rarely till late October.
The larva feeds on various lichens growing on trees and bushes.
