Deilephila porcellus (Linnaeus, 1758) Species

Known from many regions in Belgium, but much rarer than its congener Deilephila elpenor. This species is not so common and mainly known from the coast and from the Calestienne area in the south of the country.

This species is considered Near Threatened according to the IUCN Red List category for Flanders 2023.

Bionomics

Hibernates as a pupa in a loose cocoon among plant debris. The adults come to light.

The adults fly mainly from May till mid-August, regular sighting later, sometimes as late till early October.
