A very rare species in Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 10–17 mm. Take care because the forewings of Cochylis flaviciana and Falseuncaria degreyana are also suffused pink. Cochylis flaviciana has a lighter brown median fascia (middle cross band) on the wing. Both species lack the dark subapical line in the cilia of C. roseana.
It has a brown head, a green prothoracic shield with a black edged anterior, light green abdomen with white mottling and an anal plate coloured as the abdomen.
The larva bores a spiralling, silken-lined gallery through the fruits at the outside of the flower head and hibernates and pupates here.
The adults are on the wing from late June towards early August.
The monophagous larva feeds on Dipsacus fullonum.
It inhabits chalkland, sandhills, scrub, rough banks, stream banks where the food plant grows plentifully.
