A very rare and local coastal species in Belgium.
Native
Wingspan c. 10 mm. Very similar to Cochylidia implicitana, but lacks the pink flush and is slightly smaller with relatively broad median fascia and barred cilia.
The larvae of the first generation live in the flower heads, those of the second generation live in the peduncle. Hibernation and pupation in the last place.
Moths in Belgium have been seen from mid-June towards mid-August, suggesting that there is only 1 generation.
The larva lives on Asteraceae like Erigeron and Solidago.
It inhabits sandy open biotopes.
