A very rare and very local species, confined to a number of mountainous localities in the eastern part of the country. Its main stronghold is the Plateau of Losheimergraben near the German border.

The larva lives on the host plant from August to May and overwinters. The adults are easily disturbed from their foodplant and later come to light.
