Wingspan 35–41 mm. The cross-line near the base of the forewing is pointed before it meets the leading edge of the wing.

Bionomics

Hibernates as larva and pupates underground.
They are active from dusk onwards and later come to light.

The adults fly in two, sometimes three generations a year from early May till late September, sometimes till well into October.
