A very rare species in the northern part of Belgium.
Native
Wingspan 12–15 mm. A dull black appearance with a single faint yellowish dorsal spot.
The full-grown larva is brownish-red with a dark brown head.
Older larvae bore in the leaf buds and the adjacent pith of the shoot where pupation takes place. Their presence is recognizable by excrement transported to the outside of the buds.
Adult moths are on the wing in May and June.
